The first edition of synopsis of anesthesia aims to provide a single text book, short yet comprehensive to provide efficient and rapid revision of concepts to meet the clinical needs of anesthesia residents. A physician has to learn and update knowledge because of constantly evolving advances in management. There is an exhaustive amount written on anesthesia and critical care as subject is vast and varied, but not always readily accessible. Authors have aimed to keep the chapter’s short and highly relevant thereby providing simple yet informative knowledge about the topics. This book has been prepared as per the curriculum and requirement of anesthesia degree courses in India. It has been prepared and written in a systemic manner and opts a simple approach in presenting the text. Utmost efforts have been made to cover all necessary important aspects of the subject including recent advances wherever required.
The book provides brief information regarding basics of anesthesia, anesthesia management, recent advances in area of ICU management including latest guidelines on sepsis, ventilator induced pneumonia, Berlin definition of ARDS, recent advances in obstetrics, bariatric, geriatric, early recovery from anesthesia and surgery, physics of anesthesia, difficult airway society guidelines, statistical analysis, cardio-pulmonary exercise testing, management of electrolytes and acid base disorders including anesthesia management in dealing with the same, and latest advances from standard text books have been incorporated. Various standard flow charts with references have been added for quick reference guide.

Dr. Lalit Gupta MBBS (Gold Medalist), DA, DNB (Anesthesia), MNAMS is working as an Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi. He has more than 12 years of experience in the field of Anesthesia and Intensive Care. He has achieved a Gold Medal during MBBS graduation from Delhi University. Thereafter, he acquired his degree in anesthesia from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. He further acquired a degree of Diplomat of National Board from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi. He has successfully accomplished many publications in various National and International Journals worldwide. He has written various chapters in various books of international repute to his credit. He is an Editor, Associate Editor and Reviewer for more than 30 national and international Journals. He is a Life member of reputed National Academy of Medical Sciences, India. He is an active life Member of Indian Society of Anesthesiologists as well as Airway Management Foundation (AMF). He is associated with many critical care and anesthesia societies. He has a special interest in Oncoanesthesia, Palliative Care and Cancer Pain Management. He is a certified BLS and ACLS provider.
Dr. Bhavna Gupta, MBBS (Gold Medalist), DA, DNB (Anesthesia), MNAMS, is an anesthesiologist and critical care expert. She is currently working as a Senior Resident in Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care at Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi. She did her MBBS from prestigious Lady Hardinge Medical College (Delhi University) with four awards during her MBBS tenure. She was awarded a Gold Medal for standing first in ophthalmology and was awarded “Sh. Prant Nath and Smt. Shanti Devi Sharma” Medal for securing first position in ophthalmology in the year 2007. She has also received prestigious “Captain S. Bhattacharya’s” Prize for Best Student in ophthalmology and ENT and awarded “Hari Mirchandani” Silver Medal for best all-rounder in Labor room posting. She did her Diploma in Anesthesiology from prestigious Maulana Azad Medical College and thereafter did DNB from Batra Hospital and Medical Research Center. She has received Dr. Archie Brain as first prize for competitive paper presentation as well. She is a life member of various societies, including ISA, ICA, AMF, MNAMS, RSACP, AORA, ISSP-PAIN and Indian Society of Palliative Care. She has written various chapters in various books of international repute to her credit. She has various national and international publications as well.
