This paper examines the articles published in on-line D-Lib magazine for authorship trend, contribution of teaching and professional, country-wise contribution, degree of collaboration and productivity within different facets of digital/electronic libraries. The study carried out for this paper found that collaborative research is given priority over solo research. The degree of collaboration is found to be 0.625. The study further reveals more contribution reveals that most of the contribution comes from the USA and Germany while facet-wise distribution of articles depicts that most of the articles cover digital libraries and preservation followed by metadata/ cataloguing.

Any library has the primary function to cater to the informational requirements of the patrons within minimum possible time. For this purpose, libraries acquire resources subject to financial constraints. No library can provide every document to every member out of its stock. The available stock of a library is shared by its patrons by borrowing books for a particular time and then to return in the library for others.With the passage of time and emergence of new techniques, the circulation system of library transforms accordingly. Libraries implemented the modern techniques to save the time of its patrons and to share its resources at national and international levels. The present paper is an attempt to discuss some of the important and widely used library circulation systems.

As librarians we should be actively marketing and promoting our library services. This paper aims to clarify marketing for librarians. Practical solutions are provided on how to implement a marketing strategy, with particular emphasis on the value of using electronic information resources. It also shows the link between promoting library services and raising the profile of the library.

This article deals with job satisfaction among librarians in Tirunelveli district. The study includes academic, public and special libraries. A sample of 100 library professionals has been selected as respondents on the basis of stratified random sampling method. The study revealed that majority of the respondents felt job satisfaction as librarians. Majority of them said that they are satisfied with the economic benefits they get from their job. They also felt that their job was very helpful in widening their social status, Majority of the respondents have agreed that there is enough scope for freedom of decision making and initiative in their job. They get enough opportunity to serve as ex-offices in other posts. About 68 percent of the respondents have agreed that their working condition is satisfactory and the job allows them to related jobs. About 78 percent perceived a high level of job satisfaction.

Since from the inception of CALIBNET (Calcutta Library Network) in 1986, Many library networks are emerges in India ranging from UGC INFLIBNET to MALIBNET and so on. Among these networks few are enlarging their services and boundaries but some are still in the infantile stage due to various reasons. In this situation, this paper attempted to present the existing situations of library networking systems of the country. The paper is also made an attempt to review the difficulties in establishing a single public library network system and also a proposed public library network system for Tamil Nadu. As far as Indian Academic Library networks a detailed description has been made by the paper and along with this, existing situations about Indian special library networks are also presented in this paper. Problems of networks are also examined by the paper and many suggestions are made by this paper at the end for improving the networking conditions in India. Apart from this, some of the research based proposed library networks are also presented in this paper.

Due to the impact of modern technology the library environment has changed to a great extent. Consequently, the flow of work has changed and librarians have adopted new and additional duties. In order to face the challenges in this new environment the library authority have updated the strategic plan and changed the job priority. The information explosion during recent years has become a challenge to the librarians and library and information centers. Simultaneously there has been an ever increase in cost of information products, resources and services. Outsourcing of works is very common issue in today’s production and service sectors. Engaging outside agency in the library is not a new subject. This paper attempts to highlight the meaning of outsourcing, its application in library management and activities as well as some pros and cons of this process. It also highlights the initiatives adopted by different kind of libraries in India regarding outsourcing.

In the early periods the libraries were considered as the store house of books where books were kept in closed access system under key and lock. The Librarian was thought to be the custodian of these books. In the presented scenario, the situation has been totally changed. The libraries are observing open access system in which users is free to use any of library material. The role of the Librarian is considered as a manager/disseminator of knowledge. Libraries are fully automated. Electronic material is replacing the print material gradually. Softwares are used for housekeeping operations. RFID and bar code technology is proved to be boon for users and staff as well.

Library Consortia or Consortium is now being overheard globally; it is more because of e-publishing. Consortia are all about sharing resources and improving access to information. These resources are shared among libraries that have common missions, goals and clients (users) and act on those commonalties. Before we are sharing own library resources through inter library loan, but in this Information communication technology (ICT) age it has gained momentum even in the developing countries. In this paper authors proposed a prototype consortia model for libraries in Puducherry region and discussed the ICT infrastructure required for consortia participation.

This study evaluates Ph.D. theses in physics, submitted to the North Bengal University Darjeeling, West Bengal during 1987 to 2007. This study aims to determine the year wise distribution of theses, the guideship pattern, to determine the most productive guides and average number of citations per theses. The study also investigate the citation distribution to show which format is cited most in each subject of science, to identify the characteristics of the cited references in terms of format, source of information, and to view the chronological distribution of cited literature, which will show the time during which literature in the particular subjects remains active. The study presents the trends in authorship pattern and collaborative research in physics. Journals and Books/monographs were the two formats that were most frequently cited in Physics (81.76% and 8.34%). The ratio between single and multi-authored papers is approximately 1:3. The degree of collaboration in physics is 0.774. The study indicates that maximum references were used during the year of 1980-1989. Journals published in India, USA, United Kingdom and the Netherlands are popular among the University science researchers. The most frequently cited journal titles were The Physics Letter, Physics Review A, Mol. Cryst. Liq. Crystal.

American association for cancer education had emphasized the role of structured educational programs for medical students and residents in primary care specialties in order to improve palliative oncology education. Dissatisfaction with the conventional methods of clinical assessment on the part of teachers and students led assessors to search for appropriate alternatives and in 1975, Harden and his colleagues introduced the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE). OSCE was introduced as a standardized tool for objectively assessing clinical competencies - including history-taking, physical examination, communication skills, data interpretation etc. It consists of a circuit of stations connected in series, with each station devoted to assessment of a particular competency using pre-determined guidelines or checklists. The Structured Clinical Instruction Module (SCIM) modifies the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for teaching purposes. The objective of this review is to provide a focused update on the status and applicability of SCIM and OSCE in cancer for educational use in palliative care. From the 12 studies which were on OSCE and 6 studies which were on SCIM, it appears that the two competency-based evaluation methodologies used in cancer education namely the OSCE and SCIM, are well validated and reliably used across settings and samples of students, practitioners and patients. Future studies in Indian palliative care settings are warranted prior to extrapolation of existing evidence.

Information literacy is set of skills needed to find, retrieve, analyse for efficient use of information. In the information age, the information literacy skills are essential, since the explosion of information output and information sources. The literature growth in the field of medicine, unassessable and ever growing in exponential ratio and quick obsolence. In this context the medical students are find difficulties in getting awareness and availability of resources in the electronic forms for their day to day activities. As such, the study is carried out among the student users of Ragas Dental college library, which is one of the leading library in the field of dentistry. The results show that students are having ICT skills along with knowledge about Social Networking Sites (SNS) . Though, the information literacy programmes run by the library are effective to the students but not bringing out expected results.

The need for perfection and improvement in the quality of medical treatment in field of oral health has become quite apparent in present Indian scenario. Incredible volume of medical information, its everincreasing nature, invention of new diagnostic methods and rejection of previous techniques and medicines necessitate access to the most recent information in the field. This paper provides a picture of the information seeking behaviour of the dentists in Indian metros. The aim of this study is to investigate how the Dentists obtain the information they require. It also attempts to investigate the type of library resources that these groups use as well as the problems they face while seeking information.

The article examines that most of the Associate Professors are highly aware of the availability of Scholarly journals are accessing through UGC-Infonet. The study reveals the Professors and Associate Professors largely use them for teaching purposes and Assistant professors use the resources for studying purpose. The faculty members from Science and Humanities they acquire the experience for accessing the Scholarly journals in particularly Professors and Associate professor are obtained the guidance form the Library staff and Assistant Professors are guidance from the senior faculty members to seek the experience of Scholarly journals access. It is however found that lack of training for accessing is the obstacle in proper and full utilization of Scholarly journals. The paper will help other institutes understand the need for library electronic resources, and motivate them to update the electronic resources in the focal interest of the faculty members in Alagappa University. The paper also indicates how a suitably designed survey can show the searching publishers provide the full text articles based on this preference given to JCCC gate way of Scholarly journals providers and it followed by springer link articles highly used by the team of  the faculty members.

This paper reviews websites of university libraries that pertain to methodological, and usability approaches to website evaluation. The paper analyzes the initial work and continues up to recent developments in website evaluation. In general, based on a set of website evaluation criteria’s like Authority, Purpose, Coverage, Currency Objectivity, Superstructure, Graphics, Use of color, Content, egibility, Page layout, Hyperlinks, Promotion, Searching and FAQ, these evaluation criteria’s are the platform for the checking up the status of the university websites. The strengths and weaknesses of each method are examined. Research gaps and opportunities for future studies are discussed. Situation can only be improved if the University & their library websites update the latest information on a regular intervals, or the latest happenings comes in. And preparing a model for the university libraries websites.

The research in the field of science and technology significantly contribute to the growth and development of a country. Particularly the Green Revolution and the White Revolution has a significant role in the growth and development of India. To measure the quality and quantity of the scientific contributions, one can apply the technique known as Scientometrics. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database containing both peer-reviewed research literature and quality web sources which consists more than forty six millions of records from 19000 titles of 5000 international publishers. The present study is an attempt to identify the various bibliometric aspects of the scientific contributions of the researchers and faculty of CCSHAU, Hisar published between 2003 and 2012. For this purpose the Scopus online database and search facilities are used. Most of these are research articles published in various journals. The average number of authors per contribution is 3.55. The degree of collaboration is 0.99. There is a decrease in the number of contribution during the last five years. The CCSHAU researchers and scientists had foreign research collaboration with thirty-three countries. The study clearly indicates that the sole research (authorship) trend is now over and collective research trend is in force.
