At present the World Wide Web is the largest available repository of information with the largest number of users searching information. Advances in computer applications during the past few decades have brought radical changes in the way information is gathered, stored, organized, accessed, retrieved and consumed. Today’s users have their information needs met via a number of options. They need not come physically to the library to use print formats but can stay at home or the office and access online library resources and services via networks or authentication methods at any time. E-resources can be used for efficient retrieval and meeting information needs. This is very important for academic libraries since most of them call for more and more research work. This important fact is convincing many libraries to move towards e-resources, which are found to be less expensive and more useful for easy access. Results of the present study show that using online journals daily takes the first order reporting among the users of educational faculty members, using online journals twice a week the second, using online journals once in a week the third, using online journals once in a fortnight the fourth and using online journals thrice a week the fifth and using online journals as and when required the last. Study reveals that respondents have high level of location for accessing online journals such as central library, department library. The respondents have moderate level of location for accessing online journals such as computer center and other places.

The aim of this study was to analyze the use of the Internet and related issues among the students and faculty of nursing colleges of the Bangalore city. A well structured questionnaire was distributed among the 250 students and faculty of selected nursing colleges of the Bangalore city. The response rate was 84%. The present study demonstrates and elaborates the various aspects of Internet use such as, use of internet, factors influenced the use of internet, methods of learning to make use of internet, time spent for using internet, frequency of use of internet services, experience of internet use, purposes of internet use, problems encountered while using internet, comparison of traditional documents, internet influence on academic efficiency, internet expertise and satisfaction level of the students and faculty members with the Internet facilities provided at the Nursing college libraries. The result of the study also provided information about the benefits of the Internet over conventional documents. It was found that the Internet had become a vital instrument for teaching, research and learning process of these respondents. Some suggestions have been set forth to make the service more beneficial for the academic community of the nursing colleges under study.

The present study examines the use of e-resources at K.S. Institute of Technology. A questionnaire was prepared to elicit opinions from the users of e-resources. The responses were gathered from 98 users (80 faculty and 18 PG students from Engineering College). The results of the survey provide information about the type of e-resources used, purposes for which e-resources used, problems faced by the users while using e- resources, benefits of e-resources over conventional resources, success rate of finding required information in e-resources adequacy of information in e- resources, influence of e-resources on academic efficiency and views regarding features of e-resources on the basis of results of the survey some suggestions have been put forth for optimum utilization and exploitation of e- resources.

SWOT Analysis plays significant role in the libraries. It helps to identify their Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Present paper emphasizes on different facets of SWOT Analysis in the 14 engineering college libraries in the Marathwada Region of Maharashtra. The major observation is the engineering college libraries in Marathwada Region having more Strengths & Opportunities and fewer Weaknesses & Threats.

Access to government data empower citizens and brings in greater public participation. The open government data (OGD) movement started with the formulation of principles to govern the open data movement. Considering the social, economic, political value and the transparency and public participation that the open government data will put forward government around the world opens up access to government data. Many developed and developing countries are adopting national data sharing plans to facilitate easy access to data. In this paper authors highlights the conceptual framework of OGD and its principles, how government data will empower the citizens through various policies, programmes and Acts and provides OGD initiatives in India.

In the academic world e-learning is as an expanding reality and librarians in the university system will soon have to face in significant measure. E-learning can be used as a supplement or support of traditional learning methods at universities. E-learning courses and seminars can be integrated in traditional and bundled in virtual universities. Elements of e- learning can be integrated in traditional distance learning institutions. At the same time it is widely observed that demand from the lifelong learning market for education and information is growing dramatically. The proliferation of e-learning programs require great efforts of libraries to follow and assist the increasing number of remote users with suitable resources and services. In this paper try to explain the relation between e-learning and e-libraries and how trends in both could mutually benefit and consider the major challenges of e-learning and link them with e-libraries.

The Web has brought many changes and challenges to the field of citation analysis. Scientists now need to make it their job to disseminate their work on as many platforms and in as many different ways as possible, such as publishing in open access and high-impact journals, and posting their work in institutional repositories, personal homepages and e-print servers, if they want their peers to be aware of, use and ultimately cite their work. Publishing a journal article is now only the first step in disseminating or communicating one’s work; the Web provides a multitude of methods and tools to publicize its scholarly worth. In this context, this article describes a citation analysis of research articles from selected electronic journals published in 2006-2010. The analysis focused on the extent to which scholars are using web-based sources in scholarly electronic journals. Results of the study shows that 82.20% of articles published in selected 6 electronic journals during 2006-2010 have web references. Out of 7290 references 72.69% of references are print journal references and 27.31% of them are web references. The majority of articles having web references are found in Journal of Distance Education (84.84%) which rank first, followed by Turkish Online Journal of Distance Education (83.96%). Overall, 82.20% of articles include web references. Journal of Distance Education has the majority 33.96% of web references while Journal of E-Learning and Education (85.78%) have the majority of print journal references.

In this ever and fast changing world where technology has intruded into almost every sphere of human activity and sources of information are no exceptions to it. Society has imbibed and embraced electronics in its every form & content and electronic information is just simply a by-product of such a wonderful gift of electronics to human beings. Man has moved from manual to mechanical and to deal with information products manually in this automated and mechanical world has almost moved out of human domain. Contrary to this fact, present study has been carried out to assess the use of printed sources of information in electronic era by students, teachers and scholars in their study, teaching and research activities. Attempt was made to look as how far the preference is given by students, teachers and scholars to conventional means of information dissemination. The study has been undertaken to assess the need and importance of printed sources of information and preference given to print by user community over electronic sources of information. The study do has paid emphasis over the constant procurement of printed sources of information by libraries and information centers and how scholars still have strong disposition towards publishing their research results in printed and hybrid journals rather in electronic journals alone.

This papers describes that metadata harvesting for Digital preservation its provides indexes or harvests metadata from different archives and digital documents to be made as institutional repositories .The functions and creations of metadata into different facets and the Dublin Core metadata initiatives an information community supported by OCLC has led to the development of metadata components that enhance cross disciplinary resource discovery. It is also provides some of the international level meta data harvester and web portal on  knowledge Harvester @NSA open gate, SJPI cross journal search service, SEED ( Search engine for Engineering Digital repositories) PKP ( Public Knowledge Project).

The paper examines the attitude of librarians in university libraries in Nigeria to monetary and non-monetary incentives. A survey research design was adopted. Seventy (70) copies of questionnaire were randomly distributed amidst the librarians out of which 45copies were retrieved. Findings revealed that librarians are aware of both monetary and non-monetary incentives and that majority of the librarians benefit from monetary incentives offered by their institutions. Also, motivation, job satisfaction and increase in organizational commitments are some of the impact of incentives on the librarians examined. Recommendations arising from the study were proffered which includes: linking rewards directly with performance and the need of an upward review of librarians’ salary periodically in order to motivate them to perform better.

This paper highlights the library and information science literature in open access environment across a globe. There are two main routes to provide open access to scholarly literature. One is Open Access (OA) journals and another is through placing articles published in OA archives or repositories. For this purpose, (Directory of Open Access Repositories) OpenDOAR and Directory of Open Access Journal (DOAJ) was studied to find their growth rate, continent , country, language wise distribution as well as total items available and OAI-PMH supported repositories.
