Dr.Debendra Kumar Biswal is presently Professor & Head, Department of Anthropology, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, India. He got his M.Sc. degree in Anthropology, M.Phil.in Social Medicine and Community Health from JNU and Ph.D. in Medical Anthropology from the University of Delhi. His earlier work experiences include (a) Senior Associate with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS, ICSSR Research Institute, New Delhi, (b) ARO in All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, (c)Assistant Research Officer with International Clinical Epidemiology Network Trust (INCLEN Trust International, H.Q. Philadelphia), New Delhi, (d) Researcher with Indian Social Institute on Kandhamal Violence in Orissa in 2007-08 (ISI, New Delhi), (d) Assistant Professor, Centre for Anthropological Studies, Central University of Orissa (2009-2013) and Assistant Professor, Tribal and Customary Law, Central University of Jharkhand (2013-22). He had the distinction of being a Senior Research Fellow of the University Grants Commission (UGC, India). He has more than forty publications in International/National journals, book chapters and Editorial/popular write-ups and more than hundred research papers presentations in International/National seminars and conferences, including presentation in Brazil, Ethiopia, Thailand and Nepal. He has more than forty invited lectures to his credit. His major areas of teaching and research are Tribal Development, Customary Law, Social Demography, Tribal Health, Ecology and Health, Tribal Unrest, Agrarian crisis and Anthropology of Naxalism/Maoism
